Summer Reading 2020: Imagine Your Story

by West Bend Library on 2020-05-22 10:00:00

This summer the West Bend Community Memorial Library has not just a Summer Reading Program for you, but a Summer LEARNING Program! Our Summer Learning Program begins June 15! The theme is "Imagine Your Story" and each week will focus on a folk or fairy tale. Our summer programming will definitely look different this year due to COVID-19, but rest assured, the youth librarians have been hard at work making this summer's programming turn virtual! The goals of our Summer Learning Program are to motivate children to read, help children develop positive attitudes about reading, and maintain their reading skills during summer vacation. The library wants to provide access to experiences that further a sense of discovery in children. Our program is 7 weeks and each week will feature a guessing contest, a writing contest, and a Lego challenge focused on a folk tale theme. We will offer story times via Zoom™ and offer activity bags to-go for all ages (preschool through teens). We have a brand new logging software called Beanstack™ that will allow children and adults to log their reading minutes and complete challenges online for badges. Of course, we will have paper reading records for families with no or intermittent internet access. We will have 5 performers coming to the library, and they will be performing on Facebook Live or Zoom™.  See our website or Facebook for details, and to directions to register for the Zoom™ sessions. We will again be offering themed shirts for sale at the library. Stop in to view this year's design, order, and pre-pay for your shirt(s)! We are extremely excited to offer children of West Bend the same great programming we always offer, just in a different format!

Adults, join us in our annual Adult Summer Reading Program starting Monday, July 15 through Saturday, August 15. This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story”. How do you enter? Read as many books as you want to, review them, and enter in for prizes from local businesses. We will have reading slips available in the library, along with options to submit them online and via email. We want people to have fun, but also stay safe while participating!

New this summer…we will have take-home craft kits for adults! Supplies will be limited, but watch for announcements online and on our social media outlets. The take home kits will be available starting Monday, June 15.
